What the 2-day Acatenango hike costs from Antigua, from the cheapest shared hike to small groups and a 4WD with glamping, and what each price leaves you to pay at the start.
The 2-day Acatenango hike costs from US$57 a person on GetYourGuide for a shared group with hotel pickup, to US$430 for a 4WD up the mountain and a glamping tent (checked November 2026). What the cheapest hike costs once you add the extras
Take two people on Volcano Expeditions’ hike. The tour is US$114 for the pair at the price we read. At the gate the Municipality of Acatenango charges a foreign visitor Q100 (quetzales) each, so Q200 more; a Guatemalan pays Q25 (Municipality of Acatenango, checked November 2026). acatenangovolcanohiking.com sets out the municipality’s entrance fee and the rules that come with it.
Then come the things you either carry or rent:
- Water: at least 3 litres a person, of which about half a litre goes into the coffee or hot chocolate at camp.
- Rentals: a flashlight, a backpack, hiking shoes or poles, rented before the hike starts if you have none.
- The extra Fuego trip: Q200 a person on Volcano Expeditions’ hike, if you take it. Where it goes is not stated, and CONRED said on 9 August 2026 that the ascent of Fuego is not authorized (Emisoras Unidas).
Several of the dearer hikes fold the entrance, the water or the gear into their price, so the gap between them is smaller than the headline figures suggest.
Where the extra money goes
Paying more buys one of three things: a guide who speaks English as well as Spanish, a smaller group, or a price that already includes the entrance and the gear. Which one matters depends on you:

- Acatenango Experience VIP charged one adult booking alone US$295 on 10 December 2026, 20 January, 17 February and 10 March 2027; two adults paid US$170 each on 20 January and 10 March.
